Wine Profile

Moniker Pinot Noir is a big, dark-hued wine sourced from three cool-climate Mendocino County vineyards, each imparting their own flavors: earth from Anderson Valley, intense berry from Redwood Valley and rhubarb and potpourri from Potter Valley. We fermented a portion of the grapes in macro-bins, punching down by hand for wine of high color and intensity to contrast with the savory nature of pumped-over tank lots. A German yeast strain supported the wine’s dark fruit profile while native yeasts contributed bright fruit and forest floor aromatics. Malolactic fermentation and the boldness of American oak lend sumptuousness and spice to this strong and expressive vintage.

Customer gave me the wine as a gift for the holidays. We drank it last night for New Years Eve, and it was fabulous!! I want another bottle!

Received this wine through my wine club, First Leaf and found it to be excellent. Immediately ordered 6 bottles. What a gem! Complex rich, dark fruit. Very good.

Also received through First Leaf wine club. One of the best Pinot Noirs I've had. I like "heavy" pinots that are more like cabs, and this one hits the spot. I ordered six more, but probably should have gone for the case.

Mendocino’s late bud break is very special from a viticultural standpoint. We are able to pick much later than other regions, allowing the grapes to achieve an optimal balance of sugar and acidity.
