Spirit of Wine Rates 2011 Moniker Cabernet Sauvignon Three Stars—And A Plus!

Spirit of Wine reviewed the 2011 Moniker Cabernet Sauvignon after sampling it at both three and four years from the vintage date, rating the wine "three stars with a plus for pleasant distinctiveness on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale."

Notes on the palate: "Plenty of soft purple fruit surrounds this core and creates a nice velvet resonance.  Distinctive without being odd, Moniker Cabernet Sauvignon offers a bold Mendocino take on a classic varietal.  The finish brings residue of cocoa and plum in a slow, soft, low-acid fade."

Mendocino’s late bud break is very special from a viticultural standpoint. We are able to pick much later than other regions, allowing the grapes to achieve an optimal balance of sugar and acidity.
